Unlock 80,000 AAdvantage Miles with the Citi Platinum Select – Annual Fee Waived First Year (Ends 9/29)

If you’re looking to bump up your American Airlines AAdvantage balance, a great new card offer just dropped. Through September 29, 2025, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® is offering a bonus of 80,000 AAdvantage miles — with a waived annual fee for the first year. Here’s everything you need to know to decide if this card is worth your application.

What’s the Offer?

  • Earn 80,000 American Airlines AAdvantage™ bonus miles after spending $3,500 in purchases within the first 4 months of account opening.
  • No annual fee for the first year; after that, it’s $99/year
  • The offer expires on September 29, 2025

Key Card Benefits

If you decide the bonus is worth it and apply, the card also provides these ongoing perks:

Eligibility / Fine Print

  • You cannot receive this bonus if you’ve gotten a new account bonus for a Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select in the past 48 months.
  • Also, if you converted another Citi card (on which you got a new account bonus in the past 48 months) into this Platinum Select, you’re ineligible for the bonus.

Who This Offer is Great For

This card can make sense if:

  • You travel with American Airlines and can take advantage of the checked-bag perk, preferred boarding, etc.
  • You expect to spend at least $3,500 in the first 4 months to get the bonus.
  • You don’t mind a $99 annual fee starting year two — but the first year is free, so you can test it out.

If you rarely fly AA, don’t buy much gas / dine out, or can’t meet the min-spend, the rewards may not offset the fee.

Final Thoughts

All told, this is a strong offer. The 80,000-mile bonus is well above what you typically see, the spending requirement is reasonable, and the waived first-year annual fee reduces risk. If you make good use of the travel perks and anticipate using the card regularly, this could be a great fit.

But act before September 29 — after that date, the offer disappears. If you want, I can compare this with similar airline cards so you can be sure you’re getting the best value. Want me to pull a few alternatives for you?
